Canterbury Emergency Statement
MEDIA STATEMENT #3
Tsunami threat has been downgraded to marine and beach areas. People who have evacuated can now return home safely.
Continue to stay
out of the water (sea, rivers and estuaries, including
boating activities), stay off beaches and shore areas. Do
not go sightseeing. This warning remains in place until
further notice.
Report serious injury or fires to the
emergency services (dial 111). It could take some time for
emergency services to determine priorities and respond
accordingly.
We advise people in the affected
area to:
Stay out of the water (sea, rivers and
estuaries, including boating activities), stay off beaches
and shore areas. Do not go sightseeing.
Listen to the
radio for updated emergency information and
instructions
Make emergency calls only to avoid
overloading phone lines
We will release further
statements as the situation evolves and more information
becomes
available.
