Cornwall Park concerned by tree fall
20 November 2016: Cornwall Park management and the Cornwall Park Trust Board were very concerned by the accident that occurred at the park today when a large tree fell on parked cars, Michael Ayrton, the Park Director, said this afternoon.
“Our sympathies go to the people directly affected by this accident for whom it must have been a considerable shock,” he said.
He said the park has commissioned an immediate arborist report on what had happened with this tree.
All trees in the park are independently audited every twelve months by arborists who assess and grade the risk of a tree or limb fall.
The tree that fell today had been assessed as having only a one in a million chance of a fall.
Trees with higher risks assessments are removed, he said.
The Cornwall Park team had been in contact with the people affected by the accident to express their sympathy and offer support.
Mr Ayrton said they will provide more information once the arborist report is completed.
