15 Years of survival & Service
The Familial Trust a Canterbury based NGO who work with those who are negatively affected by a loved ones addictions celebrated 15 years of service to the community with a sold out gala dinner celebration on Saturday November 19 2016.
Right from the welcome by (Tutehounuku (Nuk) Korako Ngai Tahu National list MP for Port Hills followed by a heartfelt waiata it was apparent this would be a special night held under the big top proudly sponsored by Happyhire. The Hon Ruth Dyson Labour MP for Port Hills electorate and long time supporter of the Familial Trust followed, then Jerry Moe National director of children's programs at the Betty Ford center in California. Emma Peek youth worker and Amber Johnson children's group leader coordinator then spoke and presented gifts to both Jerry Moe, Karen Watson and Graeme Watson. Karen Watson founder of the Familial Trust bought both tears and laughter as she spoke about her journey and dream of providing a safe place for families/whanau affected by a loved ones addictions. Graeme Watson showed a picture of Karen Watson as a 12 month old girl and because of the efforts and determination of this quiet little girl tens of thousands in need had been supported. Along with wonderful food from the fantastic team at Verve catering, the incomparable Fiona Pears and her band kicked off the nights musical treats followed by a rocking two and a half set from Retrosonic. Many many people and organisations have contributed to the journey of the Familial Trust thank you.
Overall the night was a huge
success celebrating 15 years of not only service and support
to those in need but survival because familial matter.
