Prince of Wales Reservoir Open Day

Prince of Wales Reservoir Open Day

Wellington Water is inviting residents and others to an open day to find out about consenting the reservoir that is proposed to be built in Prince of Wales park, Mount Cook.

The first of three planned open days will be held in Massey University’s Executive Seminar Suite, Gate A, Wallace Street, Mount Cook from 3.30 – 7.30pm on Thursday 24 November.

Alex van Paassen, Wellington Water’s Community Engagement Manager encourages people to call into the open day to find out about the next phase of developing the reservoir.

“People visiting the open day will have the opportunity to meet members of the project team and give us their thoughts on what should be covered as we develop the resource consent application,” Mr van Paassen said. “We’re keen to find out what’s important to residents and park users as the project progresses.”

The proposed reservoir will provide a larger and more resilient water supply for Wellington’s central business district, Newtown and Mount Cook. It will increase existing water storage which will allow Wellington Water to carry out essential maintenance, repair and upgrade works of other reservoirs in the city with minimal disruption to water supply.

The reservoir is designed to hold 35 million litres of water, which would make it the largest in Wellington. The finished tank will be buried in the space above the Prince of Wales sports fields and the area will be landscaped, leaving little or no lasting visual impact.

Wellington Water is managing the Prince of Wales Reservoir project on behalf of Wellington City Council.
