Rt HON SIR GEOFFREY PALMER TO SPEAK AT PALMERSTON NORTH LIBRARY
A discussion on - ‘Why New Zealand needs a codified written constitution’, is being held in Palmerston North Central Library Friday 9 December. This discussion is being led by Sir Geoffrey Palmer and Andrew Butler, authors of the book – ‘A Constitution for Aotearoa New Zealand’. (Victoria University Press)
The pair believes – “New Zealand needs a constitution that is easy to understand, reflects a shared identity and nationhood, protects rights and liberties, and prevents governments from abusing power.”
Their book proposes a modern, codified constitution that is accessible and clear, and aims to stimulate debate.
The authors are seeking feedback on their proposals, which will be reflected in a second edition to be published in 2017.
The event starts at 6.30pm in the Library’s Event Central.
