Further submissions close next week

Further submissions to the proposed Southland Water and Land Plan are invited until 5pm on Monday 19 December.

Policy and planning manager Anita Dawe says there have only been a handful of further submissions received so far, but she expected to receive more towards the end of the submission period.

“Most of the calls we’ve received to date have been around people trying to find their submission in the summary,” Anita says. “The summary document is ordered in the same way as the plan is ordered. So, if you didn’t comment on anything until Rule 60 in your submission, then you’ll find your request towards the back with others who submitted on Rule 60.”

There are still a few days for people to consider supporting or opposing other submissions received. “If people are having trouble reading the summary or finding their submission, I encourage them to give us a call on 0800 76 88 45 – we’re here to help,” Anita says.

There are a number of ways to make a further submission.

The further submission period is the next step in the formal planning process outlined in the Resource Management Act and comes with specific timeframes. It is for people to support or oppose the submissions received earlier this year. It is not an opportunity to raise new ideas or concerns. Rather, people can look at the changes other submitters wanted in the plan and either support or oppose those and give their reasons why.
