Ngā Uruora - Kāpiti Project Successfully Crowdfunds Webcam

Local conservation group Ngā Uruora - Kāpiti Project is pleased to announce the webcam they crowdfunded at the end of 2016 is now live.

The camera is situated on the Paekākāriki Escarpment and faces north towards Kāpiti Island and Paraparaumu.

The webcam is a fantastic resource for Te Araroa Trail walkers, boaties and other recreational users who want to check the weather and sea conditions before leaving home.

Ngā Uruora chairperson, Andy McKay, says the aim of the camera is to “provide a resource for Kāpiti Coasters and help raise the profile of the important conservation work that Ngā Uruora carries out in an effort to bring the Kāpiti Island birdsong back to the coast.”

Ngā Uruora raised $550 through the crowdfunding site, Pledgeme, in order to pay for the webcam. Ngā Uruora would like to thank all their supporters for their help with funding.

The webcam has been installed by and is hosted online by local ecological consultancy, Groundtruth.

Ngā Uruora - Kāpiti Project was established in 1997 and over this period has used volunteer power to plant over 50,000 trees, trap hundreds of predators species such as possums, stoats and rats and control invasive weeds.
