Opening Celebration
Tuesday 14
February - 6-8pm
Please join us in celebrating the opening of Sean Coyle’s exhibition Cruising Wonderland, presented as part of Pride Festival 2017.
Cruising Wonderland is a body of work concerned with articulating new queer perspectives. It invites the converted and unconverted to cruise at leisure through an installation of staged photography and diorama which focuses on sites of homophobic violence in New Zealand and Australia.
Within his artistic practice, Sean Coyle intends to explore the notion of queer time and space as a means of negotiating the hetero-normative culture. This allows for the development of an alternate visual and codified photographic language, which negates some of the more prevalent aesthetic tropes in order to propose a fresh new queer.
