Investigation into cruise ship incident underway
Statement from Transport Accident Investigation Commission
The Transport Accident
Investigation Commission has opened an inquiry into the
incident on board the cruise ship Emerald Princess in which
one man died following an explosion.
Two investigators are due to arrive at Port Chalmers to begin their investigation work shortly after 9am. At this stage it’s not known how long the investigators will be on board or whether the ship will move from its current berth.
The Bermuda authorities where the ship is registered have been informed that an investigation by the commission is underway.
The Commission’s role is to investigate the circumstances and cause of accidents.
