Pre-register for next Sunday’s Bike the Trail for your chance to win a new bike
The Hutt Valley’s annual Bike the Trail event is set for Sunday 5 March and is free to attend.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 24 FEB 2017—Bike the Trail is a free family-friendly cycling event that follows the Hutt River Trail from Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt to Hikoikoi Reserve in Petone.
Bike the Trail is hosted by Upper Hutt City Council, Hutt City Council, and Greater Wellington Regional Council, and is sponsored by Les Mills Hutt City.
The event is an easy ride and a great way for families to bike together because the course is mostly flat and away from roads. Although the Hutt River Trail is publicly accessible all the time, Bike the Trail provides a great platform for exploring the course with friends and family and makes a good social outing.
Bike the Trail is not a race and is not timed. The
start times at Harcourt Park will be staggered to reduce
waiting times. ‘Rapid riders’ will begin at 9.50 am.
Those wanting to take their time start heading off at 10.10
am, and those planning a picnic along the way or with
younger children start at 10.30 am. All riders will start
from
10.00 am in groups from the Stokes Valley start
point.
The event is free to attend. Participants can also register on the day, but they are encouraged to pre-register at www.bikethetrail.co.nz. Those that pre-register will also go into the draw to win a Malvern Star ‘Cruisestar’ bicycle, retailing at $400 and kindly donated by Green Jersey Cycle Tours.
There are also bikes available to hire, which can be reserved during pre-registration. They can also be hired on the day, but numbers may be limited.
Upon arrival at Hikoikoi Reserve, participants will be treated to live entertainment, games, and activities. Free return transport to Stokes Valley or Upper Hutt will be available from 1.00 pm until 3.00 pm. Specialised bike transport is also available for a gold coin donation.
