Vote James Findlay Waikato Regional Council
Well-known Hamilton businessman and community leader Jim Findlay is seeking election to the Waikato Regional Council.
"I have chosen to put my name forward because I am passionate about caring for the environment and the Waikato," Jim says.
"I get frustrated with the growing bureaucracy and increasing rates," he says.
Jim has lived in Hamilton, along with his wife Helen, for 44 years and the couple have four children and now grand-children.
He has been a farm management consultant in the greater Waikato region for nearly 40 years involved predominantly in dairying. His business focuses currently on rural Health & Safety. He has also been an agricultural tutor in the region and have written distance learning projects for level 4 Agriculture ITO students.
He has served as the national president of the NZ Society of Farm Management (now IPIM)
"I have a good understanding of the science of the environment and the operation of the farms while understanding the urban needs. I have been involved in the national committees and governance roles over-seeing substantial financial budgets and diverse opinion.”
"I have a wide view on the environment and will represent the urban dweller and the rural community alike.
"I am concerned with the proposed Healthy Rivers Plan and the negative affect it will have on the farmers and the national economy, but applaud the vision and the objectives.
"The cost to the rural sector to comply is excessive and the ongoing monitoring costs will create a bureaucracy unparalleled in any statutory body.
"I am keen to see the Resource Management Act overhauled without creating any detrimental effect on the environment.”
Jim is proud of the part he has played in re-structuring national bodies that he has been involved with over the years to make their more effective in the way they have worked and served their members.
Jim is very community focused. "I want to make a difference in the community and be a councilor that has been elected because he deserves to be elected.”
He has been the national convenor of the Presbyterian Churches finance committee and has served on the Presbyterian churches local, regional & national committees and as a trustee and director of Braemar Hospital.
His business interests currently include Farm Consultants NZ Ltd and AgSafe NZ Ltd.
