Marching to Music this March

Marching to Music this March

Wellington audiences will be spell bound by several free Symphonic Band shows performed by 120 young Japanese musical artists in late March.

Members of the Narashino High School Symphonic Band will be arriving in Wellington on 21 March and wasting no time in performing lunchtime concerts at Dowse Square, Lower Hutt on Wednesday 22 March and then Civic Square the next day. Their style of music is marked by playing in formation and marching as they move into different performance configurations.

Not only will they be meeting other local Symphonic Bands in the region at various ‘school jams’, but they have also hired the Michael Fowler Centre for a 2 ½ hour free concert on Friday 24th March. Members of the public can get free tickets from the Japan Information and Cultural Centre.

Led by inspirational Director and band conductor Mr Harunori Ishizuya, you will see some stunning choreographed performances to known and Japanese songs.

This band consistently comes in the top 10 High School Symphonic Bands at competitions in Japan and their slick, fast paced and entertaining style of performance will delight people of all ages.

They will stay for six days in the region and polish up their knowledge of the English language and culture by being home stayed by local Kapiti families.
