BEACON SEARCH AND MVA

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was tasked by the Rescue Coordination Centre to the Ruahine Ranges near Rangiwahia Hut last night (Sat 18th) at around 8:00 pm after a personal locator beacon activation belonging to two hunters. The helicopter carried out a search butte to cloud in the area were unable to locate the party. The helicopter then inserted LandSAR members close to the beacon location to carry out a ground search. The ground team located the party and they were extracted then next morning.

Then on Sunday morning the Helicopter was dispatched to State Highway 4 near Parakino for a man in his 20’s injured in a motor vehicle accident. The car had come off the road and down a hill and was spotted by a passing ambulance. The man sustained head injuries and was stabilised by St John paramedics before being airlifted to Whanganui Hospital.
