Manawatu: Arena One Grandstand cleared to host rugby

Arena One Grandstand cleared to host representative rugby games

Fire safety improvements to the Arena One grandstand are on target to enable Manawatu Rugby to host upcoming representative games.

Work has been completed to a stage where the grandstand and concourse can be occupied by the public from tomorrow (11 August).

Interim Chief Executive David Wright says he is pleased with the progress made.

“The project team has given priority to addressing the fire safety issues and has worked seven days a week to meet today’s deadline. Following the latest inspection and report from our fire safety consultant, we are confident with our decision to lift the majority of the access restrictions and have given confirmation to the Manawatu Rugby Union that facilities will be available for their upcoming programme that starts on 20 August.”

During public events level two will have additional fire wardens in attendance to enhance current active detection systems as a precautionary measure.

“Public safety is still our priority. Therefore, we are also implementing an extra layer of active protection on some levels until all work has been completed. This means there are still restrictions of access to some levels of the grandstand and we are continuing with our fast-track work plan.”

All active detection systems such as alarms and sprinklers are, and have always been, operational and compliant.
