Water Main Renewal in Timaru Port Area
Water main renewal in port area
Major works are now underway to renew a water main in the Timaru Port area.
Work to replace the water main, which runs down Ritchie Street begun this week and is expected to be completed within three weeks.
Timaru District Council Drainage and Water Manager Grant Hall said that the work had been planned for a later date but was brought forward due to a mains burst in the area.
“A significant break on the Ritchie Street main triggered the decision to renew the existing water main ahead of time.
“There will be traffic and access disruptions in the area during the period of works, but we’re hoping to minimise this where possible. A car park in Ritchie Street will also be closed for up to five days during the works.
“Once complete, this work will improve security of water supply for the port area, and reduce the amount of water wastage resulting from the frequency of breaks.”
