Christchurch rally to Free Ahed Tamimi

Christchurch rally to Free Ahed Tamimi

Christchurch human rights supporters are joining the New Zealand national day of action to free Ahed Tamimi and all 350 Palestinian children held in Israeli detention centres.

The Christchurch rally will take place from the Bridge of Remembrance at 2pm, Saturday 3 February.

Ahed Tamimi is a 17-year-old Palestinian girl who was hauled out of bed in the middle of the night and arrested by the Israeli military on December 19 last year for slapping an Israeli soldier during a protest after her cousin had been hospitalised by a rubber-coated bullet earlier in the day.

She was 16 at the time of her arrest and turned 17 in prison earlier this week.

“New Zealanders are waking up to the brutality of the Israeli military and the apartheid policies of the state of Israel towards Palestinians”

“Our protest will call on people to give practical support to the struggle for Palestinian human rights by intensifying the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign against the Israeli state”

“This country had a significant impact in the struggle against apartheid through actively supporting the international boycott of apartheid South Africa”

“We can have the same impact against the apartheid policies of the Israeli state”
