“The Money or The Bag” and make a difference this winter

21/6/2018

Choose “The Money or The Bag” and make a difference this winter!

Winter in Wellington has its challenges – from the cold temperatures and the strong southerlies, to the (occasional) horizontal rain. During this season we all have to make choices about how to keep ourselves and our families warm, safe and healthy.

While these choices may be simple for some, for others they are incredibly hard. During winter too many Wellingtonians are forced to choose between paying for heating or rent, or between getting groceries or warm clothes. Please make the choice to help by getting involved in The Wellington City Mission’s Brown Paper Bag Collection!

Today (Thursday 21 June) you will find The Mission’s iconic Brown Paper Bag and special donation envelope in The Dominion Post, and you can make your choice – will you support by donating “The Money” or by filling “The Bag” with goods?

If you miss out on the food collection bag and donation envelope in The Dominion Post, don’t worry, you can still get involved! You can simply fill any shopping bag with goods and drop them off to your local Z Energy Station, or get in touch with The Mission to request some special Brown Paper Bags to fill. You can also donate online anytime on www.wellingtoncitymission.org.nz. Generous support of the Brown Paper Bag Collection will help The Mission provide food parcels for families on low incomes, so they don’t have to choose between food and heating this winter. You’ll provide financial mentoring to help people avoid falling into crippling debt because they can’t pay a large power bill. You’ll ensure The Mission’s Drop-in Centre can offer hot meals, daytime shelter and a place of community for people facing social isolation or homelessness. The impact of this support often goes much further than we realise. Along with helping people get through the challenging winter months, it sets them up for a better future too.So together, let’s make sure that everyone in the Wellington region can be warm, safe and healthy this winter!Last year The Mission provided over 3,500 food parcels from our Foodbank and over 23,000 meal servings in our Drop-in Centre.

For more information about the Brown Paper Bag Collection or to make an online donation please visit wellingtoncitymission.org.nz/brownpaperbagcollection , or call The Mission on (04) 245 0900.

Thanks for your support!
