Doors open to Taradale’s newest charity shop

On Monday July 2nd Napier Family Centre opens its doors to their first Charity Shop at 301 Gloucester Street, Taradale.

Napier Family Centre’s CEO Kath Curran says, “People have asked of us a few times over the last ten years whether we should open an op-shop. However, it is right now that we have the right ingredients for a great experience for everyone involved – the shopper, volunteers and our staff, as well as the perfect location.”

“Charity shops and op-shops have really come into their own in recent years, as people become more budget and environmentally conscious” says shop manager, Carolyn Pugh.

The Napier Family Centre charity shop will focus on quality product offerings including fashion, homewares, children’s items and small furniture. “The Hawke’s Bay charity/op shopper has a particular interest in all things Art Deco and vintage so we are keen to accept donations that will help us build up these categories too”, says Carolyn.

The money raised from Napier Family Centre’s charity shop will go back into supporting local children and families through social services.

Napier Family Centre has a 35 year proven history supporting families to improve relationships and wellbeing through their work in Financial Capability, Counselling, Early Childhood Education, Family social work support and Education courses for parents and children.

Napier Family Centre has many programmes that rely totally on donations and grants rather than government funding. Some of these services like a bread run or respite care fly well under the radar but are absolutely essential. “We are not a crisis centre, but our origins in the Christian faith remain steadfast and ensure no one is left feeling hopeless” says Kath.

The Charity shop will be largely run by the support of a dedicated team of volunteers who have been working flat out to get the shop ready for opening day. “We are so grateful for the amazing team we have and encourage anyone wanting to give back to their community to get in touch, we have a job for everyone!”

Donations of goods can be conveniently dropped off in store, there’s even a loading zone on Symonds Lane where you can pull up right outside.

The shop hours will be Monday – Friday 9.30am – 4.30pm and Saturday 9.30-1pm.
Napier Family Centre looks forward to connecting with the local community and seeing the avid customer revel in a good find.
