Update Waikato coal mining protests
2pm update
In a second
protest today, after greeting mining conference delegates at
Rotowaro mine near Huntly, a group of around 30 people
met the miners at a second Waikato mine at Maramarua,
blocking the main entrance, forcing them to go up the road
into another entrance.
“For the last three days, delegates from this year’s mining conference have been under no illusion about the public’s attitude to destructuve gold and coal mining, destroying conservation land and causing clinate change,” said Peter Whitmore of Auckland Coal Action.
The police turned yp to the peaceful protest, then left.
