The Gas Hub’s Parks and Places returning to Upper Hutt in 2019

Upper Hutt City Council’s Activation team is bringing back The Gas Hub’s Parks and Places in the new year. Make 2019 the year you try something new, take up a new sport or come back to an event you love.


UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 14 DEC 2018—Upper Hutt City Council’s Activation team is partnering with The Gas Hub for a 4th year to provide the Parks and Places summer programme.

The 2019 programme will start on 10 January and run to 31 March, with active opportunities that are low-cost or free. Activation is bringing back some iconic events such asCardboard Chaos, Picnic and Play, Bike the Trail, and Top School, along with some new events such as Soap Hockey at Youth in Parks and a Pedal and Picnic event.

The Gas Hub’s Parks and Places offers Upper Hutt residents the opportunity to get out and be active over summer and to increase awareness of the positive health benefits during the programme. Activation is also aiming for events to be zero-waste and provide healthy food options.

Local active recreation providers have created opportunities for the public to try out their activity and meet their team before committing to it long term. Activities this year include disc golf, bowls, aikido, pétanque, running, inline-hockey, general circuits, Irish dancing, orienteering, target shooting, soccer, Nordic walking, cycling, walking, and medieval sword fighting.

During The Gas Hub’s Parks and Places there will also be key events being delivered in the Upper Hutt area. These include the popular Youth in Parks, Paws in the Park, Kev the Kiwi walks, Buggy walks, Play Pod, Top School, Bike the Trail and Family Water Day at Harcourt Park paddling pool.
