Surf Life Saving Northern Region (Raglan incident)

Location Ocean Beach, Raglan
Summary
At 3:36pm,
Surfcom were alerted by the Ambulance Service to a missing
child who was swept out to sea off Ocean Beach, near the
Raglan Rivermouth.
Lifeguards were tasked and launched an
IRB, arriving on scene within 10 minutes to begin
search.
The Raglan Surf Callout Squad was also tasked and
a second IRB launched to help with the search around
4:30pm.
The patient was located at 4:59pm by the Westpac
Rescue Helicopter and was brought to shore by Coastguard.
Surf lifeguards assisted with
CPR.
Outcome/Result
Attempts to resuscitate were
unsuccessful.

Sam Uffindell’s defenders keep reminding us that he was only 16 at the time of the King’s College incident, and haven’t we all done things in our teens that, as adults, we look back on with shame and embarrassment? True. Let's be honest. Haven’t we all at one time or another, joined a gang and beaten a smaller, younger kid black and blue with wooden clubs?
