Massage Therapists and Bodyworkers Volunteer in Christchurch
A group of qualified Massage Therapists, Bowen Therapists, Reflexologists, Acupuncturists, Shiatsu therapists, Chiropractors and other Professional Bodywork specialist are volunteering their time to offer hands on therapies to the stressed and grieving people of Christchurch, the Emergency services workers involved, and any other affected people.
“We have given over 3000 free treatments to stressed, crisis affected people and emergency services workers since the Canterbury earthquakes beginning in September 2010.” said Marina Locke (co-ordinator, NZ Emergency Response Therapists). “The heartfelt outpouring of care and kindness in Christchurch is incredible. It’s amazing how people pull together when there is a crisis.”
The volunteer therapists will be working primarily at the NZ College of Massage on Thursdays, alternating afternoon and morning shifts each week beginning on the 21st at 3:30pm. The College has generously donated some rooms and equipment for the NZERT volunteers to use to give treatments to the general public. NZERT volunteers will also be offering services to the police.
There are many people who are feeling the stress of the recent events. The therapists will use all their skills to help relieve stress symptoms resulting in a more restful sleep.
