Police acknowledge IPCA findings
Police acknowledge the findings of an Independent Police
Conduct Authority (IPCA) report into a prosecution matter in
Northland District.
In June 2020, Police initially charged a man with assault following an incident outside a Whangārei bar. At a later date, the charge was subsequently withdrawn by Police.
The IPCA examined whether a senior officer (Officer B) influenced this prosecution outcome and whether Police’s Conflict of Interest Policy was breached.
Police accepts the IPCA’s finding that there was a conflict of interest for the senior officer and that he should not have been involved in the case.
An employment investigation has been concluded.
