Kiwis Take Aim In First Major AXE THROWING Tournament
The ANZAXE Open Axe Throwing Tournament is headed to Wellington, New Zealand on August 13th & 14th! This will be the first tournament of its kind held by the World Axe Throwing League in New Zealand or Australia and will be held at Sweet Axe Throwing Company - 60 Cambridge Terrace, Wellington.
Some quick facts on what to expect at our tournament:
- Competitors from all over the region - which includes New Zealand & Australia and will be battling it out in three different disciplines - hatchet, big axe, and duals - for the opportunity to win a bid to the 2022 World Axe Throwing Championship in the United States in December!
- A diverse field of competitors from all over the country with no divisions by gender or age.
- Two days of action showing off the growing sport of axe throwing in New Zealand.
Some quick facts about the World Axe Throwing League (WATL):
- Founded in 2017, WATL is the world's largest axe throwing organization, with over 350 companies representing venues in every major continent on the globe.
- WATL has a membership of more than 10,000 players that participate in leagues, tournaments, and other axe throwing events, all vying for a shot at the Championships.
- Throwers will
compete in the tournament in any of the 3 disciplines WATL
has to offer:
- Hatchet - Throwers stand at least 12 feet away from the target, throwing an axe that weighs no more than 3lbs
- Duals - A team of two throws synchronously at a single target, competing against another team of two. Check out our explainer video
- Big Axe - Throwers stand farther away from the target, at the 17 ft mark - taking a step towards the target. They throw a longer, heavier axe, with a minimum length of 23 inches. Check out our explainer video
