Police Acknowledge Verdict In Relation To The Death Of Nigel Wilson
Detective Senior Sergeant Damon Wells:
Police acknowledge the verdict handed down in the High Court at Christchurch today in relation to the death of much-loved Nigel Wilson in Bexley, Christchurch in November 2022.
Nigel was walking his dog in Bexley Reserve when he was senselessly attacked. His family have had to deal with a profound loss, and Police have spared no effort to see those involved be held accountable.
Nigel's family and I would like to acknowledge and thank the members of our community who provided valuable information to assist us with this case from the very start of our investigation.
Our thoughts are with his familiy, and while the verdict has been reached, this is just one part of the healing process. I acknowledge the strength they have shown over the last two years, and while the outcome does not bring Nigel back, the person responsible will be held to account.
Police will continue to support and work with the family leading into the sentencing, which has been scheduled for 11 December.
