New Cultural Touchpoints And Enhancements On The Way For Mauao
Starting in late April, additional cultural touchpoints and enhancements will be added to Mauao. The installation process is expected to take approximately four weeks.
The updates will include:
- Protective fencing at the pā site, located at Te Tihi o Mauao (the summit of Mauao).
- Finishing touches to the tomokanga (entry posts) on both the Waikorire (Pilot Bay) and Hinekite Takutai (Main Beach) sides of the maunga.
- Two new curved benches along Te Ara Motukauri (4WD track).
- A new curved bench at the summit lookout.
During the installation period, all tracks will remain open with minimal disruption to the public. However, there may be stop/go traffic management in certain areas to safely transport materials and vehicles to each installation site.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out these works to protect the pā site and create more opportunities for our community to reflect and connect with the maunga. These final elements will complete the Mauao Placemaking Project.
