Update: Tomo On Golden Sands Drive, Pāpāmoa
A wastewater pipe has failed and created a tomo with sand being drawn into the pipe.
Tauranga City Council staff and contractors have secured the site and ensured underground services in the area are protected.
The pipe is over 5m deep, and the mode of failure will be identified when excavations are complete.
The wastewater pipe has now been isolated, and overland pumps have been installed to redirect flow and are pumping wastewater to the Golden Sands pump station.
Traffic management is in place with two lanes operating on Golden Sands Drive.
We are in contact with residents and the Golden Sands school community.
There may be noise and odour associated with the temporary over-pumping process, and slight traffic delays for road users.
We thank the Pāpāmoa community for their patience as we work resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible.
