Deputy Director of The Whānau Ora Community Clinic Raewyn Bhana is deeply concerned and saddened by the attempted abduction of a young student near Rowandale School in Manurewa on Monday. This incident is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and collective responsibility to protect our tamariki.
We strongly condemn this type of behaviour and the threat it poses to the safety and wellbeing of our children. Every child deserves to feel safe in their own community, especially on their way to and from school. We acknowledge the quick-thinking and brave actions of the parents who intervened — their response may have prevented a tragedy.
We urge anyone who may have seen this incident, or has any relevant information, to come forward immediately. Please contact the New Zealand Police and reference case number PO62455386. You can also speak with Rowandale School staff if you feel more comfortable doing so.
Now is the time for our community to stand together and look out for one another. Let’s ensure our neighbourhoods remain safe and welcoming for our children and whānau.
