SH6 Due To Reopen Tomorrow After Slips Cleared

State Highway 6 through the Lower Buller Gorge between Inangahua Junction and Westport is due to reopen at 3pm tomorrow after the clearing of slips triggered by heavy rain.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) has been working on assessing and clearing the road since the heavy rain event earlier this week which forced motorists to take alternative routes.

While crews have made good progress on clearing the road, it remains unsafe for travelling now and more rain forecast through until tomorrow could still affect the progress to reopening. Significant work remains to redirect water back into waterways and the ongoing impacts of this are being monitored.

NZTA advises that following reopening motorists should expect delays of up to an hour between 6am and 6pm on the journey between Inangahua and the crossroads where State Highways 6 and 67 meet.
