Upcoming SH16 Closure To Complete Bridge Stitching Milestone

State Highway 16 (SH16) will close in both directions between Trigg Road and Foster Road from 7pm Saturday 14 June to 5am Monday 16 June 2025 so new bridge structures can be connected as part of stage 1 of the SH16 Brigham Creek to Waimauku safety improvements project.

After many months of construction, two new bridge structures, Kumeū No.2 Bridge and Berry Bridge will be joined to the original bridges in a process called 'stitching’.

Whilst this work is completed, traffic will be detoured via Trigg Road heading south-west and Foster Road heading north.

The stitching is a significant milestone for the project as it enters the final phases of construction. It involves using high strength concrete to seamlessly secure the two halves to make each a solid and wider bridge.

We’ve minimised disruption for road users by completing the two separate bridges at the same time, completing concrete mix pretesting to ensure we have the strongest bond in the shortest setting time, and timed the works for the period of the week with the lowest vehicles per day.

Fine weather is critical to success and work will be moved to another date if the work cannot take place on the planned dates.

Please allow extra time for your journey and be sure to follow all signage and detours as we complete this work.
