Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter Undertakes 33 Life-saving Missions In May
The Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter carried out 33 life-saving missions across the Manawatu and Whanganui regions throughout May.
These missions included seven inter-hospital transfers, three medical events, 13 rural/farm incidents, four motor vehicle accidents, and six miscellaneous missions.
The rescue helicopter was most frequently seen in remote locations such as the Tararua Ranges, Taihape and Raetihi.
The month began with the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Foxpine for a male who was in serious condition. The patient was transported to Wellington Hospital to receive further treatment.
In the early hours of Sunday May 4, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Taihape Airfield for a male who was in serious condition. The patient was flown swiftly to Wellington Hospital to receive further treatment.
On Tuesday May 6, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Palmerston North Hospital for a male who was experiencing a serious medical condition. The patient was airlifted to Wellington Hospital for further treatment.
On May 8, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Woodville for a male who had sustained serious injuries following a motor vehicle related incident. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Wellington Hospital for further treatment.
On Friday May 9, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Wairarapa Hospital for a male who was suffering from a medical event. The patient was transported to Wellington Hospital to receive further treatment.
That afternoon, the rescue helicopter flew to Eketahuna for a male who was experiencing a significant medical event. The patient was flown to Wellington Hospital for further treatment.
On Sunday May 11, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was tasked to a rural property in Te Uri for a male who had sustained fracture injuries after a fall while horse riding. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Palmerston North ED for further treatment.
On Monday evening, May 12, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Rangataua for a patient who was suffering from a medical condition. The patient was flown to Whanganui Hospital to receive further treatment. Later that evening, the crew completed another medical emergency-related mission.
On May 16, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Taihape for a male who was in critical condition following a farm related incident. The patient was flown to Whanganui Hospital to receive further treatment.
On Saturday afternoon, May 17, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Opiki for a male who sustained injuries following a motorbike related incident. The patient was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital for further care.
That evening, the rescue helicopter flew to Wanstead for a female who was in serious condition following a motor vehicle accident. The patient was treated on scene for approximately 30 minutes before being flown to Hastings Hospital for further treatment.
On May 21, three critical missions were carried out.
The first involved a female who was in serious condition. The patient was airlifted from Levin medical Centre to Palmerston North Hospital to receive further treatment.
That afternoon, the rescue helicopter flew to Raetihi for a male who was suffering from a medical event. The patient was stabilised on scene for approximately 40 minutes before being flown to Whanganui Hospital for further care.
That evening, the crew were tasked to Pahiatua for a male who had sustained serious injuries after a fall while biking. The patient was treated on scene by the onboard Critical Care Flight Paramedic for almost an hour before being airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital for further care.
On May 26, the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter was rapid dispatched to Taihape for a male with serious injuries following a motor vehicle accident. The patient was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital to receive further treatment.
The month concluded with the Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Te Horo Beach for a male who had sustained injuries after a fall. The patient was treated at the scene, kept warm then transported to Wellington hospital for further treatment.
