Student Volunteer Army Prepares To Mobilise In Response To The Current Weather Event
The Student Volunteer Army (SVA) is preparing to mobilise its nationwide network in response to the current weather front across the country, with a focus on supporting the worst hit areas - Auckland and Nelson. Individuals or whānau with flood-affected properties are encouraged to get in touch if they need support.
Flooding can be incredibly unsettling - it turns life upside down in an instant. We just want people to know that if they need help, we’re ready to show up without hesitation.
SVA’s response is proudly supported by AA Insurance and Hummingbird Coffee, our long-term partners helping ensure volunteers are equipped and ready to assist where needed.
“Student Volunteer Army has a network of 258 schools and 6 university clubs around the country that show up without hesitation in communities when they are in trouble. We're happy to be called on for people impacted by flooding,” says Stella Blackwood, President of the SVA Auckland Club.

ABOUT SVA:
Born out of a student-led clean-up operation after the 2010 Christchurch earthquake, the Student Volunteer Army (SVA) is now a network of tens of thousands of volunteers, driven by a desire to help their communities and empowered to make tangible differences in the world every day. SVA’s programmes at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education empower youth through volunteering; cultivate a culture of service that will last across generations; and build resilient communities that are connected and ready to respond when crisis hits.
