UPDATE: State highways in Otago that were closed by snow that fell overnight have now all reopened.
State Highway 85 from Kyeburn to Palmerston, State Highway 85 from Omakau to Kyeburn, State Highway 8 Tarras to Omarama (Lindis Pass), and State Highway 87 from Outram to Kyeburn, are all now open again after work by road crews.
Motorists are urged to continue to take care in the winter conditions. People can check the latest status of the highways at our Journey Planner site.
NZTA urges people to think about adjusting speeds and travelling distances, being visible and avoiding sudden braking or turning movements.
