Keep Safe Travelling On Auckland Harbour Bridge Today
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is urging drivers to take extra care and be prepared for the possibility of lane closures or reduced speeds on the Auckland Harbour Bridge today.
Between 9am and 6pm today (Thursday 3 July), wind gusts on the bridge are forecast to hit 70-80km/h, with the potential to reach 90km/h, triggering an amber alert.
The bridge will move to 4x4 lane layout mid-morning and stay in this layout during the evening.
However, under an amber alert, speed limits may be reduced and some lanes on the bridge may close. Under a red alert, we may close all lanes on the bridge.
NZTA monitors wind speeds closely, and any decisions to lower speeds, close lanes or close the bridge are made based on the need to ensure the safety of road users and to protect the bridge structure.
Drivers of high sided vehicles and motorcyclists are advised to avoid the Auckland Harbour Bridge and use the western ring route on State Highways 16 and 18.
NZTA thanks road users for their patience and understanding. Any closures or restrictions will be notified via our social media channels.
