Nominations For Kaipara District Council Open 4 July
Nominations for candidates seeking election to the Kaipara District Council open this Friday, 4 July, and close at 12 noon on Friday, 1 August 2025.
To be eligible to stand, candidates must be New Zealand citizens, aged 18 or over, and enrolled on the Parliamentary electoral roll. Each candidate must also be nominated by two electors who are themselves enrolled within the ward the candidate is seeking to represent.
The Kaipara District Council includes a mayor elected at large, and eight councillors elected from specific wards across the district. For the 2025 elections, councillor positions will be contested in the Wairoa (3), Otamatea (2) and Kaiwaka-Mangawhai (3) wards.
Nomination forms are available from 4 July. These can be collected with the Candidate Information Handbook from Kaipara District Council offices, requested by calling 0800 727 059, or downloaded from the council website at kaipara.govt.nz/elections or from https://esp.electionservices.co.nz/lge2025/KA.
Anyone planning to stand is strongly encouraged to submit their nomination well before the deadline. Late or incomplete nominations will not be accepted, and early submission allows time to address any potential issues.
The local body elections will take place in October 2025, with voting set to begin in September 2025. Further information about the election process and key dates this can be found on the Kaipara District Council website kaipara.govt.nz/elections.
