Northbank Road Access For Residents

Scheduled openings for residents affected by a large slip 2km from the start of the Northbank Road will continue this week.

The rock fall came down overnight on Monday 30 June following the recent weather event in Marlborough.

Marlborough Roads has advised that openings will be in place from Tuesday to Friday from 7.30am to 9am and 4.30pm to 5.30pm daily. The road will remain closed overnight.

Between 9am and 4.30pm the road will be closed to all road users including pedestrians. This is due to the danger of falling rocks while large machinery clears the slip from above the road.

During openings, the slip will be monitored and if conditions change and it is deemed unsafe, the road will not open.

Further down Northbank Road, approximately 2.5km after Fabians Valley Road, the road will be closed daily between 9am and 4pm for slip clearance works.

There will also be other works under stop/go traffic management, so people are advised to expect delays.

Other damage has been caused on Northbank Road and its side roads and as a result no heavy vehicles are allowed on Noels Bridge. Road users should travel with extreme caution and to the conditions.

All works are weather permitting.

This will be reviewed on Friday 11 July and an update sent.
