Statement From Mayoral Candidate And Wellington City Councillor Ray Chung
“A number of media have asked me for my view on a so-called ‘dossier’ on Labour Party political candidates running for council and which the media alleges has been prepared by Better Wellington Incorporated.
“I do not have any knowledge of such a document nor have I seen it and therefore am unable to offer any comment on it. I reject any and all of the spurious accusations in The Post that I, or the team of independent candidates with whom I am proud to stand, are behind it.
“This year, I will complete three years as a Wellington City councillor. In that time, I have witnessed first hand how the council is run and the significant amount of wasted spending that can be stopped to save ratepayers’ money. There are clearly candidates in this election that don’t want the spending to stop. They want their ideological vanity projects to continue along. They see ratepayers as a bottomless ATM, and this attitude is causing enormous financial and personal hardship for many people.
“The team I am standing with know that we can get rates increases down. The goal is to zero. But we have to take the council table to achieve that.
“We have been outlining our approach through our Zero Rates Increases Roadshow, which no mainstream media like The Post or Stuff have bothered to attend to find out how. But given the interest we have received, we believe Wellington residents want value for money and support our charge for change.
