Ash Hillis Launches Campaign For Bay Of Plenty Regional Council

Tauranga local Ash Hillis has announced his candidacy for the Bay of Plenty Regional Council (BOPRC) in the 2025 local body elections, calling for fresh leadership focused on building a better future for the region—starting today.

Raised in Tauranga, Hillis is standing on a platform of community-driven solutions, smart investment, and long-term thinking. He believes it's time for a new generation of regional leaders—people who live here, understand local challenges firsthand, and are deeply committed to shaping a region that thrives for decades to come.

“The decisions we make now will define the Bay of Plenty for future generations,” says Hillis. “It’s not enough to patch things up—we need to plan with purpose, act with courage, and invest in what matters.”

With several sitting councillors not seeking re-election, Hillis says this year’s vote presents a rare opportunity for meaningful change.

“This is a turning point for our region. We can’t afford to let it pass us by. I’m running a grassroots campaign—low-budget, high-impact—fuelled by a deep love for this place and the people in it.”

His campaign will prioritise smarter regional transport, responsible growth, improved water infrastructure, and protecting the lifestyle that makes the Bay so special.

Hillis is urging residents to check their enrolment details at vote.nz, and to take an active role in this year’s election.

“If you want change, you’ve got to be part of it. If you believe in what I’m standing for, help me spread the word—every conversation counts.”
