Craig Lord Backs Government’s Stand On Refocusing Local Councils: “It’s Time To Get Back To Basics”
Whau Ward Council candidate Craig Lord is strongly endorsing the Government’s pledge to pull local councils out of ideological distractions and bring them back to the basics of delivering core services, value for money, and proper accountability.
“It’s frankly sad that MP Chris Bishop had to publicly scold councils for their out-of-control spending and lack of focus,” says Lord. “When the central government has to remind local authorities that signing off on gold-plated items is irresponsible and instead they need to start fixing roads, pipes, and public amenities, it tells you just how far off course things have gone.”
Lord says he has consistently campaigned on a platform of core services and real accountability — long before this renewed national conversation.
“This is exactly what I’ve been talking about. Ratepayers are sick of being used as ATMs to fund ideological pet projects that don’t improve daily life,” Lord continues. “What people want are working footpaths, safe streets, clean parks, and infrastructure that actually functions. And they want elected representatives who take responsibility for spending every dollar wisely.”
Lord says it’s encouraging to see the coalition government now drawing a clear line in the sand. “It’s good to know that central government is on the same page. We need local councils to be practical, not political. We need to serve, not preach.”
Craig Lord’s campaign focuses on returning council to its fundamental responsibilities — with no fluff, no spin, and no waste.
