Eight Candidates Entered For Upcoming Kaipara Elections

As of 18 July eight candidates have submitted their nominations for Kaipara District Council’s local elections in October.

Candidate nominations opened Friday 4 July and are open until 12 noon on Friday 1 August 2025.

Candidates so far include two for mayor and six for councillor positions.

There are three councillor nominations for Otamatea Ward, three councillor nominations for the Wairoa Ward and no councillor nominations currently for Kaiwaka-Mangawhai- Ward.

The nominated candidates are (alphabetical by surname):

For mayor

  • Jonathan Larsen
  • Snow Tane

For the Otamatea Ward (two vacancies)

  • Denise Anne Rogers
  • Michael Joseph Schimanski
  • Stephen Wood

For the Wairoa Ward (three vacancies)

  • Rodney Claude Field
  • Gordon Lambeth
  • Joesephine Nathan

For the Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Ward (three vacancies)

  • No nominations as of Friday 18 July.

Please note that nominations are subject to approval by the Electoral Officer.

There are 14 days left for candidate nominations. Nomination forms can be collected from Kaipara District Council offices, requested by calling 0800 727 059, or downloaded from the council website at kaipara.govt.nz/elections or from https://esp.electionservices.co.nz/lge2025/KA.

Read the Kaipara District Pre-Election Report online, or request a printed copy from the Dargaville, Mangawhai office or Dargaville, Mangawhai library.

Voting information

Voters can expect to receive their voting papers in the mail from Friday 9 September. Voters who have updated their details or enrolled after Friday 1 August will need to cast a special vote. Voting closes at 12 noon on Saturday 11 October.
