Former Masterton District Council Exec To Focus On Leadership, Advocacy And Heart In Council Run
Andrea Jackson, better known as AJ, has officially announced her candidacy for Masterton District Council, bringing a blend of leadership, advocacy and heart to the race.
A passionate community advocate, AJ is committed to building a strong and inclusive relationship between Council and the people it serves - ensuring every voice is heard.
“I’m proud to call this community home,” AJ said.
“Balancing priorities while keeping rates affordable is a constant challenge, and I’m prepared to ask the tough questions to ensure we deliver the best value for ratepayers.”
AJ is Masterton local and brings a unique mix of operational and governance experience including managing multimillion-dollar council assets, serving as the first female Chief Executive of a Rugby Union and leading governance reviews and community boards.
AJ’s experience includes serving the Masterton community as part of the Masterton District Council’s leadership team and management roles at Wellington City Council. She has also been involved in a governance review of Wairarapa Hockey and was a board member of Wairarapa Bush.
In her current role with Nuku Ora AJ works across all eight Councils across the wider Wellington region.
“I bring valuable knowledge of the inner workings of local government and leading an organisation where we had to manage our costs carefully – this is valuable experience to have around the Council table,” AJ said.
“Good governance is about leadership, advocacy, and heart. I know what’s required to get results, and I’m ready to serve this community with everything I’ve got.”
"Lastly, I would like to express my sincere thanks to those who have supported my nomination — Lyn Patterson, former Mayor of Masterton, and Luther Toloa, former Councillor for the Masterton District Council. Both understand what it takes to be an effective Councillor and to lead with purpose and dedication for the benefit of our community."
