Central Hawke’s Bay has a race on its hands with every single seat in this year’s Local Government elections Central Hawke’s Bay has a race on its hands with every single seat contested in this year’s Local Government elections.
There are 20 people vying for all four wards (Council- at Large, Aramoana-Ruahine, Ruataniwha and Ruatahi Māori) and the mayoralty seat in Central Hawke’s Bay, Electoral Officer Jane Budge said.
“People are stepping-up and representing their community,” Budge said.
“We started Thursday with only six candidates
We had a further flurry of 14 candidates came in, meaning we officially have an election. The nomination period opened on 4 July, closing at midday 1 August.
“The election is on, and people need to ensure they are enrolled to vote.”

7 October last day for posting vote by mail. After this date, votes must be returned to council’s secure ballot boxes
