City Centre Framework Adopted And Next Phase Of Community Engagement Launched
Hutt City Council has formally adopted the City Centre Framework, marking a milestone in the vision to revitalise the heart of Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt.
The Framework sets the strategic direction for the future of the city centre, shaped by valuable input from Mana Whenua, local businesses and the wider community.
Feedback highlighted strong support for businesses and improving infrastructure, celebrating cultural identity, prioritising safety and accessibility, and bringing our public spaces to life.
"This is a unique chance to truly revitalise the heart of our city," says Mayor Campbell Barry
"The Framework builds on the momentum of Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi RiverLink project which is already transforming our riverfront and nearby streets."
With the Framework now in place, we’re moving to the next stage of our work where we’re taking a close look at the streets in our city centre - how they look, how they feel, and how well they work for the people who use them every day.
Whether you live nearby, work in the area, or just love spending time in the city centre, we want to hear what matters most to you and where we should focus our mahi.
"Your feedback is essential to ensure these spaces reflect our community, support local businesses and feel welcoming for everyone," says Mayor Barry.
Feedback is open until midnight, Monday 18 August 2025.
