Tasman Emergency Recovery Period Extended
The official emergency recovery period is being extended in Tasman District as the region continues to clean-up following the two recent back-to-back storms.
Mayor Tim King has extended the local transition period over the area of the Tasman District Council owing to the ongoing effects of the severe weather events experienced in June and July 2025.
The details are:
- Commencement: This extension came into force immediately before 4:47 pm on Thursday, 14 August 2025, which is when the previous transition period was due to end.
- Duration: The extension remains in force for a period of 28 days.
- Conclusion: It will therefore end at 4:47 pm on Thursday, 11 September 2025, unless it is terminated or further extended prior to that time.
This decision has been made in accordance with the powers provided under the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Act to ensure the continued safety and recovery of our communities.
Mayor King says it’s a long process getting parts of Tasman District back on its feet again and it’s great to see the progress that’s been made to date.
“The impact of this unprecedented double weather event has been felt by individuals and communities far and wide.”
He says the extension of the official recovery period gives us the opportunity and resources to focus on specific aspects of the clean-up, for example our river systems and stop banks network.
Mayor King says if people need assistance or advice the Tasman District Council Recovery Team continues to be here to help.
