Auckland Mayoral Candidate Has Accepted Invitation For Auckland University Debate 26 August Hosted By Jack Tame Of TVNZ
Dr. Eric Chuah has accepted the Invitation from Auckland University Debating Society as Auckland Mayoral Candidate, North Shore Ward Councilor and Kaipatiki Board Candidate.
The debate will be hosted by Jack Tame of TVNZ Q & A and will be on August 26th 7-9 pm.
5 other candidates have confirmed their attendance and it is important for the incumbent to front up and have the courage to debate the other candidates and also explained like any CEO how Auckland Council debt has gone up another 3 billion from 11 billion to 14 billion (News.co.nz) and also the $1.2 billion overspent on 'temporary traffic management' and the uncollected road cones costing $5-6 per cone left on roadsides and side lanes. Also what due diligence was conducted in regards to staff recruitment where the Chief of Staff was selected who was found to be a property developer in receivership owing IRD $552,000.. Yet the incumbent mahyor still says he will continue in his work. What KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are adopted.
The lack of transparency, accountability is concerning where so many Auckland Council Governance meeting demonstrates gridlock where factions score points on one another. The last and final Council meeting on the 31st July was a shocker where a councilor stated there will be another 48% rate increase next year 2026. that means an average house of $1.4 million currently having rates of $4000 and $1000 water rates will be inundated with another $2500 increase in rates and another $750 in water rates. This is unacceptable.
Dr. Eric Chuah if elected as Mayor or North Shore Ward Councilor will look into transparency of tendering and contract award process, staff recruitment systems and other accountability measures , audit the $1.2 billion overspent. Councilors over 6 years in office have overseen rate increases of 120%. In any private/public corporation you would have to resign already.
Dr. Chuah has also identified $2 billion unnecessary spent which would be $2000 of each ratepayer leading to reduce rent for renters which he will demonstrate in upcoming debate.
