New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Traffic Bulletin: Lindis Pass/SH8 Closed Due To Snow
State Highway 8 between Omarama and Tarras (including Lindis Pass) is closed this morning due to snow. Road users are advised to delay their journeys or avoid the area after the closure was put in place earlier this morning.
State Highway 8 between Fairlie and Lake Pukaki also remains closed because of snow after being closed last night.
The closures come as a cold snap moves up the South Island and snow warnings have been in place in several areas.
Crews will be working to reopen the roads and updates will be provided later today.
Area warnings are in place on other state highways, because of snow/winter driving conditions, including SH1 north of Dunedin, SH87, SH85 and SH94. On SH73 between Springfield and Castle Hill (Porters Pass), chains are essential and there is a no towing vehicles restriction in place.
Drivers should take extra care when travelling through these areas.
