7.05pm UPDATE – SH1 reopens after crash closure
State Highway 1 near Allanton has reopened after a closure this morning due to a fatal crash.
Emergency services have completed their work at the crash site, and the section of highway between State Highway 86 and the Henley-Berwick Road intersection is now clear, but operating under a 50km/h temporary speed restriction.
Motorists should take care through this area.
8.25am – SH1 closure expected for several more hours
A section of State Highway 1 in Otago is expected to remain closed until this afternoon after a serious vehicle crash earlier this morning.
Emergency services have been at the scene of the crash near Allanton since the early hours of the morning. SH1 is closed between State Highway 86 and the Henley-Berwick Road intersection.
For southbound traffic, a detour is available by turning right onto SH86 (Centre Road), left onto Henley-Berwick Road, and then right onto State Highway 1. Northbound traffic will need to reverse.
Road users should plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel. People can stay up to date on the status and conditions of the highways at our Journey Planner site.
