Volunteer Info Day At Pūkaha - Help Protect Our Wildlife Legacy

Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre is opening its doors to the community on Saturday, 6 September 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm, for a special Volunteer Information Day.

As part of Conservation Week 2025, Pūkaha invites community members to discover how they can play a vital role in protecting Aotearoa’s wildlife, supporting environmental education, and preserving the unique legacy of Pūkaha.

The Volunteer Info Day provides attendees with an opportunity to explore a variety of volunteer roles, including predator control, wildlife conservation, visitor engagement, and hands-on maintenance. Participants will be able to meet the Pūkaha team, tour the facilities and conservation projects, and enjoy a free sausage sizzle while connecting with others interested in conservation and volunteering.

“Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do,” says Pūkaha Board Chair Shane McManaway. “This day is about showing people the impact they can make, and how rewarding it is to be part of Pūkaha’s conservation journey, supporting us as we rebuild stronger than ever.”

Pūkaha welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, offering roles that match skills, experience, availability, and fitness. “Whether you have a few hours to spare each month or are looking for a hands-on way to contribute regularly, Pūkaha has a place for you,” adds McManaway.

Conservation week runs from 1 to 7 September 2025, with the Department of Conservation encouraging Kiwis to ‘Take Action for Nature.’ The Volunteer Info Day at Pūkaha is a perfect opportunity for the community to get involved and make a real difference for Aotearoa’s wildlife.
