“It is time for the corrupt mainstream media to be made accountable". Says Ted Johnston, Auckland Mayoral candidate.

This Auckland Mayoral election shows how the corrupt mainstream media's technique of puff pieces, biassed reporting and support for their favourites (who do huge advertising spends), and the near complete ignoring, denigration and suppression of competent opponents decides elections in Auckland.

There are no actual debates, just Q&A . No TV morning talks for other candidates this time, no interviews except for the medias 2 favourites, (based on patronage, spending and incumbency). The public are not interested as the media does not do it’s job of displaying the wealth of ability, expertise, policies and competence the candidates actually have.

The public attention is flooded with boring pro-Brown ‘Mayoral ‘news as well as positive puff pieces on his opinions, and very few analyses of his ‘policies’. Brown is not particularly competent, and on an even playing field ( rather than a stacked deck) he would be lucky to be mid pack in the current crop of candidates. The reporting by media and total lack of polls (there were about 10 last time) favours Brown. This undermines democracy as competence and policies are not examined and presented to the public.

It demonstrates the political answer to the philosophical question" If a tree falls in a forest and no-one hears it, does it make a sound? The answer is no, this is the difference between observation and reality.

We have freedom of speech but that is worthless without a right to be heard. Suppression is a tool and a weapon. Democracy is crippled.

In our modern western democracy we rely on the media to inform so we can decide then vote. Instead the biased media herd voters to their anointed favourites.

The govt should create electoral laws to stop bias and allow fair reporting to restore democracy. If all our elections for Mayor are bought and paid for, then we should expect incompetence and the mess Auckland is in. If you only eat swill you don't know what good food tastes like.

The mainstream media have controlled information and turned it into propaganda.

They are not there to be the news, or make the news, or to interpret news so as to state their own opinions. They are there to fairly report and inform.

The corrupt mainstream media have failed in this, their main task, and so defeated democracy in the Auckland Mayoral elections.
