Central Ward Candidate Withdraws From The Local Body Election
Tim McNamara, a candidate standing for Council in the Central Ward, has withdrawn from the election for serious health reasons that would likely impact his ability to perform the functions and duties of office if he was elected.
On receiving the application from the candidate today, the Electoral Officer has decided to cancel the candidate’s nomination, which effectively means that any votes already cast for the candidate are deemed void.
For Central Ward electors yet to vote please note that the nomination has been cancelled and any votes cast for Mr McNamara would not be counted.
There were seven candidates vying for the two Council positions for the Central Ward. This will now reduce to six candidates with the cancellation of Mr McNamara’s nomination.
Central Ward voters who have already completed and returned their voting papers, and who may have cast a vote for Mr McNamara, are not able to vote again as stipulated by the Local Electoral Act 2001.
